Everything You Need to Know

Frequently Asked
Questions

Answers to our most common questions about rooms, breakfast, policies, and making the most of your stay at Hotel Pension Anna in Leavenworth.

🗓Booking & Reservations

The easiest way is to book directly through our online reservation system, which shows real-time availability for all rooms and suites across Pension Anna, Landhaus Erika, and the Alte Kapelle. You can also call us at (509) 548-6273 and we're happy to help find the perfect room for your visit.

Book directly — by phone at (509) 548-6273 or through our online reservation system. You'll get our best rates, which third-party sites like Expedia and Booking.com can't match, and you'll see every room we have available. Direct bookings also come with the most flexible cancellation terms, and there's always a real person to call if anything changes.

During peak periods — Christmastown (October through December weekends), Bavarian Icefest (January), Maifest (May), and Washington State Apple Blossom Festival — we require a two-night minimum stay. Most of the year, a Saturday night booking also requires a two-night stay. Our booking system will show the current requirements when you select your dates.

Our cancellation policy varies by rate type and time of year — here's a quick summary:

  • Standard reservations must be canceled at least 7 days before arrival by 3:00 PM local time to avoid forfeiture of your deposit.
  • Christmas season (Thanksgiving through January 4) requires 30 days notice. If we're able to re-book your room, your deposit is refunded minus a $50 per room fee.
  • Oktoberfest (first three weekends of October) requires 14 days notice.
  • Non-refundable promotional rates are fully prepaid at booking and cannot be canceled or modified.
  • Groups of 4 or more rooms — please call us directly for rates and policies.

Changing your arrival dates inside the cancellation window counts as a cancellation. If you booked through a third-party site, their stated policy applies. We recommend travel insurance for all reservations — it's the best protection against unexpected changes. See our full Policies page for details.

Yes — all reservations require a deposit at the time of booking:

  • Stays of 1–2 nights — one night plus tax
  • Stays of 3 nights or more — 50% of the total stay

If your reservation is more than 6 months out, we'll validate your credit card at booking but delay collecting the deposit until 6 months before your arrival date. See our full Policies page for details.

Many guests choose Pension Anna specifically for milestone celebrations. The Alte Kapelle Suite, the Herzog Suite, and the Landhaus Erika suites are all particularly popular for anniversaries, honeymoons, and romantic getaways. Mention your occasion when booking or call ahead to ask about special arrangement options for your arrival.

We're happy to work with groups and wedding parties and have enjoyed hosting them over the years. If you're planning a group stay, reach out to us directly at (509) 548-6273 or info@pensionanna.com and we'll work through the particulars with you.

🔑Check-In & Check-Out

Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. If you arrive early, you're welcome to park in our complimentary on-site lot — handy on busy festival weekends when street parking fills up fast. If your room happens to be ready before 3:00 PM, we're happy to check you in early. Late check-out may be available on quieter days — just ask at the front desk the evening before.

We have a staffed front desk and genuinely enjoy welcoming guests in person. Our team will be there to greet you, share local recommendations, and make sure you have everything you need.

For later arrivals after 6:00 PM, we often arrange a self check-in. We stay in touch with all guests via SMS on the day of arrival to make the process as smooth as possible — and if self check-in is needed, we'll send you everything you need ahead of time. We've perfected it over the years and guests have no trouble finding and accessing their rooms.

Yes, complimentary on-site parking is available. We guarantee one parking spot per room. Our location on Commercial Street puts you within easy walking distance of Front Street, shops, and restaurants without needing to move your car again.

🥐Bavarian Breakfast

Yes — a full Bavarian breakfast is included for all guests at both Pension Anna and Landhaus Erika. Served daily in our dining room (the Stube) in the Pension Anna building, it's a proper sit-down breakfast and a great way to start your day in Leavenworth.

The breakfast is a buffet you build yourself, served each morning from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. What's on the table:

  • Brötchen and German breads baked by a local German master baker, plus imported Pumpernickel
  • Coffee cake baked fresh each morning
  • Cheeses — Gruyère, Muenster, Havarti, and Swiss
  • German butcher meats — Bierwurst, Schinkenwurst, and others sourced from a German butcher in Wisconsin
  • Soft-boiled eggs served in silver egg cups — let us know how you like them
  • Fruit — apples and bananas daily, oranges and tangerines in season
  • Organic preserves and honey
  • Muesli, cereal, and Greek yogurt in several flavors
  • Custom-roasted coffee from Leavenworth Coffee Roasters
  • Tea, hot chocolate, and juice
  • Fresh pretzels on Sunday mornings

See the full Bavarian Breakfast page for more.

Breakfast is served daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. If you need to leave before breakfast hours, we can arrange a to-go breakfast — just let us know before our staff wraps up for the day.

The breakfast buffet naturally has several options that work for gluten-free guests, and we can provide gluten-free bread on request. Non-dairy milk is also available. Please note that our meats contain pork. Beyond that, we don't offer a modified or allergen-specific menu — if you have a severe allergy, please let us know before your stay so you can plan accordingly.

🛏Rooms & Amenities

All rooms include complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, in-room coffee/tea service, and private bathrooms with quality bath products. Room-specific amenities vary and may include:

  • Jacuzzi tubs — available in the Herzog Suite, Ottman Suite, Alte Kapelle Suite, and select Landhaus rooms
  • Gas or wood-burning fireplace — included in all suites
  • Private entrance — Alpbachtal and Inntal rooms have dedicated entrances
  • Balcony or deck — Pension Anna has 5 balcony rooms (Ötztal, Zillertal, Gurgltal, Gerlostal, Tuxertal) and 2 suites with balconies, including the Herzog's covered deck with Enchantments views; Landhaus Erika has 4 suites with balconies. See the rooms page for specifics.

View the full room comparison for details.

Most of our rooms accommodate two guests. For larger parties, a few options have actual extra beds:

  • Alte Kapelle Suite — two twin beds in the choir loft
  • Inntal Room — one extra twin bed
  • Autumn Suite (Landhaus Erika) — two queen beds

For other rooms where additional guests are permitted, we provide a 4-inch memory foam floor pad. It works well for kids — less so for adults. Call us and we'll help find the right fit for your group.

Neither Pension Anna nor Landhaus Erika has an elevator. Here's a quick overview by area:

  • Pension Anna — some ground-floor rooms have a private outside entrance with no steps. Upper floors require one flight of stairs per floor. Lower-level rooms also require one flight of stairs.
  • Landhaus Erika — the 2nd floor is accessible from the parking area without stairs, but the main entrance from the street side has exterior stairs. The 3rd floor requires one additional flight.
  • Alte Kapelle Chapel Rooms — 5 exterior steps to enter, plus a narrow stair to the choir loft in the Alte Kapelle Suite.

If mobility is a concern, please call us before booking and we'll help find the most suitable room for your needs.

We are not a pet-friendly property. Under Washington State transient lodging law, this includes emotional support animals. We want to ensure a comfortable experience for all guests, including those with allergies. We're happy to suggest nearby dog-friendly lodging options if needed.

Yes — complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout both Pension Anna and Landhaus Erika, including in all guest rooms and common areas.

All rooms have air conditioning. That said, Leavenworth summers are warm but evenings often cool down — many guests find an open window does the job just fine on summer nights.

📋Policies

All rooms, interior spaces, balconies, and the immediate outdoor areas of the hotel are strictly non-smoking. A deep-cleaning fee will be charged for violations. This applies to all tobacco, cannabis, and vaping products.

Children are warmly welcome at Pension Anna — families are part of what makes Leavenworth magical. Landhaus Erika is adults-only (21+), designed as a serene retreat for couples and solo travelers seeking a quieter escape. Several rooms at Pension Anna are also designated adults-only; these are noted in room descriptions.

Yes — all guests at Landhaus Erika must be 21 years of age or older. This policy is in place to maintain the peaceful, adults-only atmosphere that defines the Landhaus experience. ID may be requested at check-in.

We observe quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. We appreciate your consideration for fellow guests.

🏔Landhaus Erika

Landhaus Erika is our five-suite adults-only (21+) Tirolean chalet next door to Pension Anna. It offers a more exclusive, retreat-like experience with larger suites, private sauna and steam room access, hydrotherapy soaking tubs (in four of five suites), gas fireplaces, and an atmosphere designed specifically for couples seeking romance and relaxation. Bavarian breakfast is included and served across the street at Pension Anna.

Yes — Landhaus Erika guests have exclusive access to our infrared sauna and steam room. These are not available to Pension Anna guests, making the Landhaus truly a spa-style retreat. The sauna and steam room are shared among Landhaus guests on a walk-in basis. No reservations, no schedule.

The Summer, Spring, Autumn, and Winter suites all feature hydrotherapy soaking tubs. The Solstice Suite does not have a soaking tub but does have an electric fireplace and full access to the shared sauna and steam facilities. All five suites also have a fireplace — four gas and one electric (Solstice).

Alte Kapelle Chapel

The Alte Kapelle ("Old Chapel") is a genuine 1910 Catholic church that was relocated to our property in 1992 and converted into two extraordinary accommodations — the Alte Kapelle Suite and the Pfaffenwinkl Room. The original vaulted ceilings and choir loft are still there; the choir loft is where you'll find the two twin beds in the suite. There is truly nothing else like it in Leavenworth. Learn more about the Alte Kapelle.

Both the Alte Kapelle Suite and the Pfaffenwinkl Room have 5 exterior steps at the entrance and are not wheelchair accessible. The choir loft area (where the two twin beds in the Alte Kapelle Suite are located) is reached by a narrow stair. Guests with mobility concerns should consider rooms in the main Pension Anna building, where several rooms are on the ground level. Please call us to discuss your needs and we'll find the best option for you.

The Alte Kapelle Suite and Pfaffenwinkl Room are guest accommodations, not an event venue. They are not available for wedding ceremonies or private events. That said, they are a popular choice for couples — many brides and grooms stay here on their wedding night. You can book either room through our standard reservation system.

📍Location & Getting Here

926 Commercial Street, Leavenworth, WA 98826

One block from Front Street. Walking distance to everything in the village.

Commercial Street runs parallel to Front Street (the main Bavarian pedestrian boulevard) one block to the south. You can leave your car parked for your entire stay and walk to virtually every restaurant, shop, and attraction in the village.

Leavenworth is approximately 115 miles east of Seattle — roughly 2 to 2.5 hours depending on traffic and season. The most common route is US-2 through Stevens Pass. An alternative is I-90 east to Blewett Pass (US-97), which takes about the same time and can be a good option when Stevens Pass has delays or closures. We recommend checking WSDOT pass conditions in winter before driving either route.

Once you're in Leavenworth, the town is very walkable and most guests don't need a car after they arrive.

Getting here without a car takes a little planning. Link Transit runs free local Route 32 within Leavenworth, shuttles from the Wilkommen Park-and-Ride, and regional connections to Wenatchee (Routes 22/122). Leavenworth Shuttle & Taxi offers on-call service and wine tours. Uber is occasionally available but not reliable enough to count on.

Guests arriving by train typically book ahead with Leavenworth Shuttle & Taxi for the transfer from the station. Wenatchee Shuttle provides service from SeaTac Airport with some routes dropping off directly in Leavenworth or at the nearby Peshastin Park-and-Ride, where Link Transit can bring you the rest of the way.

During Oktoberfest, festival shuttles run throughout town and to nearby event locations.

🏘About Leavenworth

In the 1960s, Leavenworth was a struggling logging town that had lost its economic base. A group of local business owners, inspired by the dramatic Cascade Mountain setting — which strongly resembles the Bavarian Alps — proposed a complete architectural reinvention as a Bavarian-themed village. The transformation worked spectacularly. Today the entire downtown is maintained in authentic Bavarian style, and the town consistently ranks among the top mountain destinations in the Pacific Northwest. Learn more in our Leavenworth Guide.

Every season in Leavenworth is genuinely special:

  • Winter (Nov–Feb) — December is our busiest time of year, driven by Christmastown, one of the most spectacular holiday light festivals in the Pacific Northwest. January brings Bavarian Icefest, and snow can arrive as early as November.
  • Spring (Mar–May) — Maifest celebrations, Birdfest in May, wildflowers, and the start of Wenatchee River rafting season.
  • Summer (Jun–Aug) — Hiking, river swimming, Leavenworth Summer Theatre, outdoor concerts at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts. Warm days, cool nights, and festivals nearly every weekend.
  • Fall (Sep–Oct) — Oktoberfest, the Autumn Leaf Parade, brilliant fall colors across the valley and surrounding mountains, and prime season for hiking the Enchantments and trails throughout the Cascades.

See our full Leavenworth seasonal guide for what to do each time of year.

Leavenworth sits at the gateway to some of the best outdoor recreation in Washington State:

  • Hiking — The Enchantments (permit required in summer/fall), Icicle Creek trails, Tumwater Canyon, and dozens of other routes in the Cascades
  • Mountain biking & road cycling — Leavenworth has a serious trail network for mountain bikers, ranging from beginner-friendly loops to technical all-day epics. Freund Canyon offers a classic 8.5-mile loop with a challenging climb and fast descent. The Ski Hill trail system (Lower Rosy Boa, Fluid, Magic Carpet) is great for all skill levels. Devil's Gulch is a 25-mile advanced ride with big scenery. Nason Ridge adds high-elevation views on a 13-mile intermediate route. Enchantment Park in town works well for newer riders. Road cyclists have paved valley trails and apple orchard routes through the Wenatchee Valley.
  • Rock climbing — Icicle Creek Canyon is a world-class climbing destination
  • River activities — Wenatchee River whitewater rafting, kayaking, SUP, tubing, and floating the river in the later summer months
  • Winter sports — Stevens Pass ski area (~35 min) for downhill skiing and snowboarding. Closer to town, the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club operates a local ski hill with tubing, a magic carpet, and two tow ropes — a great place for beginners and kids to learn. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails run through Icicle Creek and the Ski Hill area.
  • Wine & cider tasting — Dozens of Wenatchee Valley wineries and cideries within 30 minutes
